Tuesday's elections were tough, but I have heard way too many people moaning and crying.

If you want someone to sugarcoat things and coddle you and tell you everything will be okay, you should probably stop reading this email now.

Look, John, we got our butts handed to us in states where Democrats outnumber Republicans. States where Trump was defeated.

So what do we do as Democrats? Where do we go from here? We do what we always do. We roll up our sleeves and get to work.

Since the start of Biden’s term, we have re-entered the Paris Climate Agreement. We have rejoined the World Health Organization. 58% of the country is fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The American Rescue Plan has cut the child poverty rate in half. More jobs were created in the first six months of this administration than in the 12 years of theTrump and Bush administrations combined.

Washington Democrats are championing to end the filibuster, which is currently blocking the advancement of all those bills left in Mitch McConnell’s graveyard. And negotiations are well underway for the comprehensive Build Back Better Act which aims to lower prescription drug costs, expand Medicare, guarantee paid leave, address the climate crisis, protect voting rights, and more.

These are all unprecedented steps in the right direction that the general public doesn’t hear enough about, so they are quick to complain that nothing is being done and say that Democratic leadership is failing.

Dems are putting in the work and making major progress — but just because we won (narrowly) in 2020, doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy or that it will happen at the drop of a hat. Bold change takes a lot of time and effort, especially after the problems this administration inherited from Trump.

And if we’re going to be successful and productive in delivering on our promises to the American people, Democrats need to lift each other up on a united front.

At No Dem Left Behind, we’re busy empowering Democrats here, too. We’re developing outreach programs at colleges and universities because we know that we need to engage with young people and get them energized about politics. We’re creating new messaging campaigns that address the everyday issues that ordinary people actually care about because we know that if we want them to vote, we need to motivate them.

And of course, we’re making sure that rural America is not ignored — after all, that is our core mission. Because if rural Democrats are left behind in broader conversations and policies, they will have little interest in participating in our democracy.

Democrats across this country are doing great things, so I’m tired of hearing the whining and criticizing. No, we aren’t even close to done yet, but we can accomplish a hell of a lot more when we’re all in this fight together. We have much more in common with one another than what separates us.

So for those who want to give up, farewell.

But for those of you who still believe in this fight and understand that not all days are butterflies and rainbows, then now is the time for you to step up and invest in what you believe in. We need all hands on deck for those of us who still care about defeating the GQP in 2022.
