John,
Earlier this week, the White House announced a new set of executive
actions to prevent firearm suicide—the strongest action a president has
ever taken to address this crisis.
This is a huge victory for our movement.
Nearly two-thirds of all gun deaths in the U.S. are suicides, with an
average of 63 deaths each day. These new executive actions are a historic
move that will put proven solutions to work, helping to reduce gun
violence and save lives.
And make no mistake—this victory would not have happened without your
help.
For the last several years, survivors of firearm suicide have told their
stories and pushed all of us to see gun violence in a new way. They helped
to lay the groundwork for our movement not only to elect the strongest gun
safety ticket ever to the White House, but also provided the Biden-Harris
administration with actionable policy solutions they could advance
independent of Congress. We're seeing that pay off in a real way through
this meaningful, unprecedented progress. [ [link removed] ]As we celebrate this victory,
learn more about the firearm suicide crisis and what our elected leaders
can do to stop it.
With this win for gun safety, we'll be able to continue our work to save
lives and expand it in ways we've never done before.
Our work to prevent firearm suicide doesn't stop here. We're pushing
elected lawmakers in statehouses to pass extreme risk laws, we're
educating the public on secure gun storage, and we're working on new ways
to create a buffer between someone having a suicidal crisis and access to
a gun.
We're leading the way on this issue—and it's because of people like you
that our leaders at all levels of government are talking about creative
solutions to these problems.
Thank you for being a part of this movement and for making big wins like
this possible. We're excited to continue working alongside you.
