Dark money allows anonymous political donors - including billionaires and massive corporations - to pour endless, unmonitored money into our elections.
Why does that matter? We don't have to look any further than the January 6 insurrection to see how dangerous dark money can be. If you follow the money, you see that dark money groups were at the frontlines of funding and coordinating this dangerous attack.
Again and again, deep-pocketed special interests hide behind our country's hazy campaign finance laws to lob false attacks and confuse voters, effectively buying our elections.
But thanks to Citizens United, the American people are kept in the dark about who is funding attacks like these - leaving our democracy at the hands of shady forces.
That has to change. The American people deserve to know who is really on both sides of a debate, where each party stands, and why. We deserve better than being left in the dark.
