Folks: Since the NDRC’s launch in 2017, we’ve helped elect governors, flip state legislative chambers, break Republican supermajorities, and pass fair redistricting ballot initiatives all over the country.
Now our movement’s volunteers are testifying at redistricting hearings to demand FAIR maps for the next decade of elections. But we’re writing to you today to talk about your role in this work. You’ve got two options:
- Option #1: Do nothing at all. Allow Republicans to get away with manipulating the maps to an even worse extent than they did in the last decade, and resign yourself to the fact that it could mean Democrats are locked out of power for the next 10 years. Sit by and watch as Kevin McCarthy claims the Speaker’s gavel and Donald Trump, or someone just as bad as him, heads back to the White House -- with or without a mandate from the American people.
- Option #2: You do everything you can to help, including making a grassroots donation, to fight back and stop this from happening while there’s still time left. Overwhelming public pressure forces GOP redistricting officials to think twice about their plans to undermine our democracy with manipulated maps. And where Republicans try to overturn fair maps, we’re ready to support voters who defend them in court.
We don’t know about you, but option 2 sounds like the clear winner to us. There is so much more than the outcome of a single election at stake in the redistricting process -- our very democracy is at risk, and we’re counting on your support to help us ensure it survives.
