BIG NEWS! We just announced victory today by 72 endorsed 2021 Progressive
Champions -- candidates running for state and local offices, from Mayor to
School Board to Port Authority. They won across 17 states -- including in
the battleground states of Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida,
Texas, and North Carolina.

These progressive candidates campaigned on getting real things done for
working people, leading the way on issues like climate and labor rights,
and showed that this is a winning agenda even in purple and red areas.
Now, they will take office and continue their work to build local power.

the country.

Here are a few of our progressive PCCC Champions who won:

Michelle Wu, a former student of Elizabeth Warren’s, was elected Mayor of
Boston by running an unapologetically progressive campaign. She ran on
passing a city-wide Green New Deal and other transformative policies such
as expanding affordable housing through community land trusts, and
creating a cabinet-level Chief of Worker Empowerment. With this historic
election, Michelle Wu will be both the first woman and the first person of
color to serve as Boston’s mayor.

Aftab Pureval will now be the next Mayor of Cincinnati. Aftab will rebuild
the local economy for shared prosperity by expanding small business
ownership, providing rental assistance to keep families in their homes,
and by turning the city into a global leader on climate change.

Brad Lander was elected Comptroller of New York City with a mandate to
"audit the hell out of" the city’s agencies to ensure that no waste or
corruption stands in the way of progress.

Kendra Evans defeated a long-time Republican incumbent to become
Supervisor of Pittsford, NY. Kendra is a dedicated activist and organizer,
and has pledged to invest in green infrastructure and pursue Climate Smart
certification.

John Deer is an activist and organizer who led a slate of candidates to
victory in 2019 in a race that flipped Manlius Town Council in NY to
Democrats. This year, he aimed to flip the Town Supervisorship and won.

Elysia Mancini Duerr was elected Magisterial Judge in Haverford Township,
PA. She will transform the court by making sure people who are facing
tough times have access to resources and using restorative justice,
compassionate solutions for truancy, and alternatives to cash bail.

Liliana Bakhtiari won their preliminary election for Atlanta City Council
by 30 points and is headed to a runoff on November 30th. If they win the
runoff, Liliana will be the first queer Muslim elected in Georgia history.

Bob Wofford fended off a right-wing opponent in his election to New
Mexico’s Las Cruces School Board. With three decades of teaching
experience under his belt, Bob will raise teacher pay, address the need
for preschool and early intervention education, and ensure the district
follows public health guidelines.

All three of our champions running for Borough Council in State College,
PA sailed to victory on Election Day. Together, Gopal Balachandran,
Richard Biever, and Divine Lipscomb will bring accountability in local
policing, increased access to mental health services, and just zoning laws
to State College.
