John,
We’re outraged to say the least. The Senate voted against paid family leave.
Why are we still letting 65+ year old men make decisions on what is best for women? And why is this a recurring theme in American history and politics? We cannot be such a big tent party that we allow this kind of crap. We are here to hold our own party accountable when that is what the moment calls for.
Stand with us in supporting diverse working moms who run for office— not wealthy, out of touch white women (like ones with purple hair *cough cough*) or old men who have no idea the hardships of being a new mother. We need people - and more specifically WOMEN - in office who recognize that the norms of our society have changed and new parents should be able to enjoy the weeks after birth without the stress of no-income.
We are one of the richest countries in the world and it’s an utter lie to say we cannot afford to pay working parents for time with their newborns. However, we can pour trillions into our defense budgets. We argue that this is not an issue of money but an issue of old men holding onto out-dated social norms.
Let’s work together to ensure that families do not have to sacrifice their jobs to keep their families together.
I urge you to channel this outrage by continuing to fight back and help elect candidates who fit the ballot on these issues. Will you join our movement to get more young, progressive candidates in office who can change the standard of paid family leave in America?
