It's not just humans that are under unprecedented strain as the climate changes. Our iconic salmon here in the Pacific Northwest are rapidly declining.

We need to act to save our salmon and protect this valuable part of our way of life.

That's why I'm proud to share that Senator Patty Murray and I recently announced that we'll be undertaking a joint federal-state process that will look at options for replacing the benefits provided by the Lower Snake River Dams, including investigating the potential breaching of those dams.

To tackle the challenge of protecting our region's salmon, I believe we must take all options into consideration. If you're with me, will you add your name to mine calling for bold leadership to protect our salmon?

While salmon are an important part of life for so many of us in the Pacific Northwest, they are particularly irreplaceable when it comes to the culture and heritage of Tribes in our region.

While I'm entering into this process with an open mind, I do know that this challenge is an urgent one. The recommendations that emerge from this joint federal-state process will be complete by July '22.

We cannot let our children or our grandchildren grow up in a Pacific Northwest without salmon. But without decisive action, that's a very real possibility.
