Alessandra Biaggi - Democrat for State Senate

Friends —

I want to take a minute to talk to you about the results from this week’s election, including both the positives and negatives.

Firstly, I am so excited that the upcoming New York City Council will have more women, people of color, and progressive members than any prior session. In my hometown of Pelham, there is now a Democratic majority on the town council for the very first time — and it's comprised exclusively of women.

Additionally, I congratulate Mayor-Elect Eric Adams on his victory. Eric has the opportunity to make great progress on key issues including education, climate justice, transportation, and housing affordability. I look forward to supporting his vision when we find common ground, and challenging him where we disagree.

With that said, I am disappointed to hear about Democratic losses here in New York. In Nassau County, Democrats lost the comptroller and district attorney races, and the Albany town board may fall into Republican hands after all votes are tallied. I am also dismayed by Democratic losses in Virginia, though I hope that the results of this election cycle can be a lesson to our party to solve people’s problems with good, progressive legislation, and keep our promises to the electorate. We need to embrace the future and provide a vision rather than giving voters the status quo.

Friend, I’m proud to be fighting for bold, progressive policy in New York State government, but I’ll need your financial support if I am going to continue doing this work. Please, add a donation of $3 — or whatever you can afford — by clicking here.
