Dear John,
The Verifier team’s goal is to give voters as much information as possible about how their votes are cast and counted. That’s why Warren Stewart, Verified Voting’s Senior Editor and Data Specialist, and I are excited to be bringing back a popular map to show how mail ballots are tabulated in jurisdictions across the country, along with tooltips to help you get the most out of your visit. Check out the updates here: ⬇️

Mail voting surged in the 2020 election and some states vote entirely by mail. Mail ballots are counted using batch-fed optical scanners, hand-fed optical scanners, or by hand. Read more about the counting methods for mail ballots here and take a few minutes to click around on our map to see how your county counts its mail ballots.

Voting technology sometimes involves tricky jargon (and a lot of interesting stats!) and we want to make sure we’re transparent about our data and give you the information you need.

With increased public interest in how votes are cast and counted in the United States, the updates we make to the Verifier are more important than ever.
