We made history on Tuesday

When we talk about building a people powered movement, we must include hyper-local elected offices. These local races are incredibly impactful because we truly get to connect with our neighbors and understand the needs of each municipality.

In the last year, I supported candidates who share our values of people-centered politics and visions for a better tomorrow. On Tuesday night, I stood with them as results began to come in and watched as truly historic moments began to unfold.

The voters of Pittsburgh have spoken and have elected the first Black mayor of Pittsburgh Ed Gainey. Across the river in Sharpsburg, we witnessed the victory of Brittany Reno making her the first woman mayor of Sharpsburg. The Sharpsburg Council will now be more inclusive than ever with the additions of the first Black Councilperson Kayla Portis, the first bi-racial & LGBTQ+ Councilperson Carrie Tongarm, and the first LGBTQ+ Councilperson Sarah Ishman. This is what progress looks like.

I am so proud to offer congratulations to the following candidates:

* Brittany Reno, Mayor of Sharpsburg
* Kayla Portis, Council of Sharpsburg
* Carrie Tongarm, Council of Sharpsburg
* Sarah Ishman, Council of Sharpsburg
* Matt Rudzki, Magistrate
* Ed Gainey, Mayor of Pittsburgh
* Elizabeth Dunn, School Board of Shaler Area

Each one of them ran positive, people-powered campaigns that really listened to our neighbors' concerns. I look forward to building with them now and into the future. Join me in congratulating them.
