The House of Representatives is expected to finally take its first vote on the transformational Build Back Better Act this week — possibly today. If passed, this will be the strongest action the United States has ever taken to combat the climate crisis.

The Build Back Better Act addresses urgent needs including climate change, health care, education, workforce development, housing, home care, paid family and medical leave, child care, and more. This package would transform our society.

We need Maine's Second District's Congressman Jared Golden to support this historic bill. Passage of this bill remains uncertain and will likely come down to a handful of votes. Rep. Golden has not yet come out in support of the legislation, and his vote could make all the difference.

The Build Back Better Act would be the most significant climate investment in our nation’s history — at least 10 times greater than any previous action.¹ It represents years of work from frontline communities, farmers, labor unions, faith leaders, young people, and more to address the climate crisis at the scale that science and justice demand.

If Congress does not rise to this moment, we will likely not have another opportunity for several years, if not decades. The climatic changes that would be locked into place during that time would be catastrophic for generations to come. The science is clear — we need to act now.
