After this week's elections, 24 NALAF endorsees are on their way to elected office!

From New York City to Richmond and Dearborn to Boston, we can now count on having bold, progressive leaders setting the legislative agenda and working on behalf of all of us! 

Your support helped NALAF endorse 45 candidates in 2021 and recognize 13 NALAF Champions nationally — our largest slate ever!

This incredible history-making cohort has broken barriers, with many endorsees becoming firsts. Coco Alinsug was just elected to Lynn City Council, becoming the first Filipino American to ever win office in Massachusetts. In New York City, Julie Won and Linda Lee are the first Korean Americans elected to City Council, while Shahana Hanif and Shekar Krishnan are the first South Asian Americans ever elected to the council. And in Dearborn, Michigan, Abdullah Hammoud is now the first Muslim and first Arab American elected mayor in the city's history.

Together, we have proven that we can build critical masses of New Americans on school boards, city councils, state legislatures and beyond. But even as we celebrate these victories, we know that our work is far from over.

Fights over mask mandates, women’s bodily autonomy, and redistricting are sweeping the nation and impacting our communities. We must expand the number of elected officials who will be in solidarity with immigrants, working families, women, and people of color.
