John,
Even after Roe v. Wade was decided on the Supreme Court — which confirmed the constitutional right to an abortion — reproductive freedom has been under attack.
Since 1976, the Hyde Amendment has targeted low-income and poor people from seeking abortion. And today, S.B. 8 prohibits abortion and criminalizes abortion care providers in the state of Texas – the restrictive law is currently being challenged in the conservative-majority Supreme Court.
We are as close as ever to returning to the era before Roe, a dangerous era without equitable access to the full range of reproductive services.
Barbara and her colleagues protected and expanded reproductive rights when they passed the Women’s Health Protection Act through the House, but it’s still waiting in the Senate.
That won’t be enough. Congress must codify Roe and expand reproductive rights while Democrats have the power to do so. If you agree, add your name next to Barbara’s to demand federal action on reproductive rights.
Barbara’s said it before: we cannot and will not return to the era before Roe.
Thank you for joining her in this fight,
— Team Barbara Lee
