Last night, Virginia Democrat Terry McAuliffe lost the Governor’s race to a self-funded wealthy Republican personally chosen by Donald Trump. As the night wore on, it was also clear that the Virginia GOP was successful in bringing out their voters, beating Democrats up and down the ballot, and appearing on track to take back the Virginia House of Delegates.

Team, we should be concerned. Democratic losses of this proportion one year out from the 2022 midterm election is a preview of how the GOP could easily take back the House next year – and roll back everything we have accomplished in the House so far.

As last night’s results continue to pour in, and the losses become clearer, Democrats should recognize that the American people are watching closely. Republicans' ability to clearly guide the American voter by using divisive rhetoric proves that Donald Trump still has a solid grip on the GOP and will continue to fuel them toward the 2022 midterm election.

But we won’t let their fear mongering and race baiting scare us as they scared their voters. We will continue to do the work to ensure that every Democrat turns out next year and remains fully engaged in keeping our House Majority.
