John,
This time last year, the American people gave leaders a clear mandate to move the needle on issues like comprehensive immigration reform, universal childcare, climate change, and healthcare. Latinx voters in particular turned out in record numbers to deliver this message -- they wanted to see real changes be made.
Congress has the ability to make those changes right now, John. And after seeing last night’s election results, we strongly encourage Congress to act boldly and pass the Build Back Better Act (BBB).
The BBB Act would improve the lives of millions of children living in poverty, save parents thousands of dollars, and add two years of free, universal schooling to our education system for the first time in over 100 years. It would be the largest expansion of affordable health care in a decade and the largest effort to combat climate change in history. It would cut taxes for tens of millions of middle class families. And, last but not least, it would invest $100 billion toward improving our immigration system and protecting undocumented individuals.
This is the economic help and support Latino families have been waiting on, and the immigration reform that will allow millions a reprieve from living in fear of deportation despite calling this country home. Congress must pass this bill and deliver on the promises they’ve made.
Gracias,
María Teresa Kumar
