Friend, I won't mince words about the results last night in Virginia.
They are a wake-up call for us that no state or district is ever pre-determined. They are a signal that we must act more boldly and decisively in delivering the change Americans voted for in 2020, and do a better job of selling the policies we are implementing. And they show that the power of the far right to shape narratives remains unfortunately strong.
We need to take back the narrative going into 2022, and we can't waste a minute. Republicans are already expanding their list of House targets -- and today they named my seat as a battleground district.
The statewide GOP ticket made enormous gains and tightened the margin in VA-10 last night, and national Republicans have renewed enthusiasm to go after a competitive district. I will be in a tough race, and I need your help early on to ramp up my campaign operations and ensure that Republicans do not out-organize and out-message us this time.

I'm not going to back down from working to pass legislation that creates jobs, rebuilds our roads, and improves life for Virginia’s families. I'm not going to back down from fighting to protect women's rights and advance equality.
But I'm going to be facing a lot more attacks in the days and weeks ahead. If we don't build up a budget now for rapid-response and expanded voter outreach, these attacks will leave a mark.
