Dear John,
Sign the petition: Apple and CEO Tim Cook must drop Trump’s new social media app!
News broke recently that Trump, who’s banned from Facebook and Twitter for inciting the deadly white supremacist-led January 6 insurrection using social media, is launching a new social media app.1 And Apple is giving it—and Trump—a platform on its App Store. It is indefensible and dangerous.
This isn’t the first time Apple has been in the hot seat: Ten years ago, after receiving pressure from the public, Apple took down a terrible anti-LGBTQ+ app that dehumanized the LGBTQ+ community and promoted the use of conversion therapy.2 This just shows how much power we have when we come together against hate and lies. Apple can and must do the right thing.

Trump has used social media to knowingly downplay the threat of COVID-19, and his lies and negligence led to the death of hundreds of thousands across the country. His lies about the election resulted in a deadly insurrection and inspired Republican state legislatures to introduce voter suppression legislation in 48 states. All these lies have caused so much harm, especially to working people, vulnerable communities, and our democracy.
In response, other tech companies like Facebook and Twitter have done the right thing and stopped Trump from spreading lies on their platforms. Now, Apple must follow suit, instead of being an outlet for Trump’s racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, homophobia and transphobia, or any other form of hate.
Apple: We are watching you and expect you to do the right thing.
