John,

The losses in Virginia are disheartening. Republicans are stoking racial tensions and creating conflict over a public health crisis yet they still won.

After four years of Democratic-led progress, The Voting Rights Act of Virginia could be overturned. Along with it, no-excuse absentee voting and early voting. Elections have consequences and now Republicans will be able to roll back the progress we made in the commonwealth.

This is scary. Especially with the midterms one year away. Another chance for Republicans to win governorships and U.S. Senate seats, setting back progress for decades.

Over the last few years, all our victories came after sobering defeats. After 2016, Democrats across the county organized to defeat Trump. We must take this as a clear sign that Democrats need to re-group and start fighting for votes now in swing states.

Early organizing is vital if we’re going to have a chance at winning in 2022. Can we count on your continued support to turn Democrats out in 2022?

What we know is that Youngkin undermined our democracy while wearing his business attire. He was able to appeal to moderate voters with far-right culture war issues.

Republicans were able to take hold of the Governor's seat and House of Delegates, making a Georgia-style voter suppression bill possible. The threat of voter purges is real. And the threat of using lies to not certify a future elections is real.

There are some bright spots in yesterday's elections:

Democrats won across the board in New Hampshire. The mayor of Manchester, Democrat Joyce Craig was re-elected and a Democrat flipped a key school board seat.

Shontel Brown won the special election to fill the 11th congressional district of Ohio.

In St. Petersburg, FL, the Democratic mayor held off a Republican challenge. This seat was held by Republicans for decades until a Democrat won in 2013.

And Michelle Wu is now the first Asian mayor of Boston.

We must stay in this fight and begin organizing early to hold our majorities in 2022. It's only possible with grassroots donations from voting rights defenders like you.

Thank you,
Vote From Home

Vote From Home is a grassroots movement that's fighting to expand vote by mail. We helped thousands of Democrats vote safely from home in Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Georgia in 2020 and 2021. Now we're focused on stopping politicians and legislation who are making it harder for Americans to vote by mail.
