John -

I learned from a young age about the importance of our right to vote. I remember listening as my grandparents and mother talked often about the barriers to voting.

And they were among the many Americans who celebrated when the 1965 Voting Rights Act passed — hoping that their children and grandchildren would never face the obstacles to voting that so many people did.

But here we are, again fighting for our fundamental right. How can it be that more than 50 years later, we are still having to fight for this constitutionally guaranteed right?

Today, Senate Republicans again refused to protect our right to vote by filibustering the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act — just days after they used the same procedural tool to block the Freedom to Vote Act.

The sad truth is that Republicans’ conclusion seems to be that they cannot win elections unless they keep people from voting.

And the threats are happening across the country. In 49 states — including North Carolina — we’re seeing a wave of Republican-led anti-voting legislation and gerrymandering. These measures make it harder for people to vote, especially people of color, rural voters, disabled Americans, and young voters.

We can’t wait any longer as politicians obstruct efforts to safeguard our constitutional rights and do the work Congress is elected to do.

With all that’s on the line right now, we cannot afford not to fight back.

If we want to protect voting rights and our democracy, we must expand our Senate majority and end the filibuster, and North Carolina’s open Senate seat is one of our best opportunities to do that in 2022. But the only way we’re going to win is with the support of folks like you across the country, so I need to ask:

If you agree that protecting our right to vote and democracy is urgent, please make a contribution to my campaign today. It’s going to take all of us getting involved to flip this seat and make real change.

In the Senate, I’ll fight tirelessly for the people of our state. And when I vote, I’ll be voting with the people of our state in mind. North Carolinians deserve nothing less.

Thank you,

Cheri Beasley
