OSWEGO, ILL. ?? All family members, even the furry ones, can look forward to their own recreation space in Oswego next summer.
The Oswego Village Board on Tuesday evening approved proceeding with plans to construct a dog park near the Village?s Public Works Facility, located at 100 Theodore Drive. The proposed dog park would include two separate recreation areas to accommodate both small and large dogs. The concept includes a training area and additional amenities as the budget allows.
?Oswego is a great place for families, and we want every family member to have a spot for recreation,? Village President Troy Parlier said. ?This is a prime opportunity that leverages existing resources, and I?m looking forward to seeing families and their pets at our new dog park next year.?
The project is expected to cost $99,000, which includes a 20 percent contingency, and will be budgeted in the Village?s fiscal year 2023 capital program for construction next year. The Village intends to seek donations and potentially consider user fees to support the cost of the park as it finalizes the budget plans.
?We estimate there are about 6,000 dogs in the community,? Public Works Director Jennifer Hughes said. ?It takes advantage of space we aren?t currently using to provide this amenity to our community.?
