Last night’s election results in Virginia and across the country are an urgent warning about the state of our democracy. Donate to Food & Water Action now to help expand the capacity of our Volunteer Network to win the political fights of 2022.

John,

In Virginia, a private equity financier rode racist conspiracy theories, an endorsement from Trump and support from antidemocratic activists into the governorship.

Results in New Jersey and municipalities across the country are equally unsettling. As we look ahead to the 2022 election, it’s never been clearer that American democracy is under threat. Antidemocratic forces are plotting desperately to take control of Congress. Their goal is to destroy hard-won progressive policies that help ensure safe food, clean water and a livable climate.

Despite these dangers, other results from yesterday’s elections showed that a hopeful future is still possible. Michelle Wu, a woman of color who ran on Green New Deal climate policies, was elected mayor of Boston. And in NYC, a strong progressive candidate, Tiffany Caban, won a City Council seat. And voters across the state added a Green Amendment to the New York Constitution guaranteeing a right to clean water and air and a healthy environment. There’s still hope for 2022 and beyond!

Starting today, Food & Water Action is fighting ferociously to help elect strong progressive leaders in the 2022 elections.

Our plan: We’ll be choosing strategic legislative targets across the country to help preserve democracy and save our climate. We’re monitoring swing states and districts and promising candidates to make sure we’re ready to move immediately. We’re also building power in strategically important areas. Join us now in the fight for our future.

And we’re taking the fight into the 2022 elections by building our Food & Water Volunteer Network. Over the last two years, we’ve expanded the program and our electoral strategy. In 2022 and beyond, this will help us win victories to preserve democracy and prevent climate chaos.

The threat is urgent. The time to fight is now. Food & Water Action is ready. Join us today.
