Abortion at the Supreme Court and action you can take.

"My abortions saved my life. My abortion provider saved my life every single time that he provided me with that care."

"I know that the state, which is committing this violence against me and my body, doesn't want me to access an abortion. And so it makes me frightened."

"In these years since, I have contributed to my community doing public service work here in D.C. and back home in Texas ... I don't know if any of that would have happened if I didn't have my abortion."

Take Action: Defend Abortion Access

ACLU Supporter, on Monday, our coalition wrapped arguments at the Supreme Court, fighting for our right to abortion access in Texas. The words above are from Kenya Martin and MJ Flores, who were gracious enough to share their stories rallying outside of the Court that morning.

Based on the Justices questions, we're cautiously optimistic that SCOTUS is concerned about the way in which this horrible law authorizes bounty hunters to go after abortion providers and effectively shuts down abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.

But even as we speak, Texans are still being forced to carry pregnancies against their will – an unjust reality that has disproportionately impacted Black and Brown communities, and those with the fewest resources, for the past two months.

And the threat doesn't stop with this ban. Considering the Court will hear a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade in a few weeks in a case from the Center for Reproductive Rights, our abortion rights are under the greatest threat in a generation.

So until our abortion rights are no longer under imminent threat, we remain focused on the countless people still being directly harmed by extreme bans like Texas' right now.

That's why, while we hope the Court will block this law from continuing to wreak havoc in the state, we also need to employ every tool in the toolbox to ensure abortion access is protected across the country at this urgent moment. That includes the Women's Health Protection Act – which would safeguard our right to abortion nationwide.

This crucial legislation already passed in the House and now it is the Senate's turn to act. So please, urge your senators to pass WHPA now and we'll keep you posted on news from the Supreme Court as soon as it comes.
