John,
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Black lives matter. And we
mean ALL Black lives - including Black asylum seekers and migrants seeking
refuge at the border.
And if we're going to make this statement a reality, we must demand
Congress push the Biden Administration to allow Black and other migrants
to seek asylum by ending the use of racist Title 42.

Seeking asylum is a recognized international, federal, and human right.
And yet, the Biden Administration is continuing to use a policy called
Title 42 to block vulnerable asylum seekers from entering the United
States during the pandemic under the guise of curbing the spread of
COVID-19.
But, John, current and former Center for Disease control
experts and EVEN DR.FAUCI HIMSELF have agreed that using Title 42 to deny
protection for desperate migrants is not how we fight the pandemic. ^1
“The problem is within our own country,” Fauci explained in a recent
interview on CNN. “Focusing on immigrants, expelling them... is not the
solution to an outbreak.”^2

[ [link removed] ]we need to end title 42 now
John, ending Title 42 is especially detrimental for asylum
seekers from Haiti, where just this past year, the president was
assassinated and the country weathered a devastating 7.2 magnitude
earthquake, all in the middle of a pandemic.
And the situation in Haiti is exactly why the asylum process was created
in the first place during the period following World War II!
But instead of being welcomed into our country, Haitian asylum seekers who
have for weeks and months been fleeing toward what they thought was
safety, are being terrorized as we saw in photographs of Border Patrol
officers chasing, whipping and abusing Haitian migrants at the border last
month.
John, we need to put pressure on the Biden Administration to
end its racist use of Title 42.

John, while on the campaign trail, Biden made promises to the
Haitian community to have more fair immigration policies. And yet he may
soon be responsible for carrying out the largest mass expulsion of
would-be asylum-seekers in recent American history.
And, John, this racist treatment of Haitian immigrants is
nothing new.
Haitians have sought asylum in the U.S. for decades, but every
presidential administration over the past 40 years has treated Haitians
differently than other migrants - rejecting their asylum claims and
holding them in detention for longer periods of time.
John, make no mistake, what’s happening at the border right now
is an extension of white supremacy in the United States.
As we commit ourselves to racial justice in the United States, we can’t
forget Black migrants and their families.
