John,

 

61 years ago this month, my family and I left the life we knew in Cuba behind
in search of the American Dream. 


Without knowing one word of English, I came to this country as a child, along
with my family — fleeing a life of indoctrination, censorship and communism.


When we arrived in Miami, the first home we lived in housed 20 people. 


Each day, my father and older cousins would come home and put all of the money
they earned on the kitchen table. They spent every dollar they had to ensure
that we were safe, fed and educated — free of socialist indoctrination.

John, this is why I am fighting in Congress. From an island just 90 miles
south of the United States to the halls of the Capitol Building, I have seen
socialism at work.
