Successful Day of Action in September

Councillors, partner agencies and local community and voluntary groups all joined together to undertake a day of action in Bestwood recently. An array of activities were undertaken including parking enforcement outside local schools, checks for untaxed vehicles, a deep clean of the Peary Close and surrounding area partners door knocked and spoke to local residents in part of Top Valley, whilst the Fire Service fitted smoke alarms.

*A big thank you to the volunteers from the Peoples Church and Bestwood Park Nursery who undertook community litter picks alongside us.*

Music Camp enjoyed by local schoolchildren

camp

*During September local school children took part in a Music Camp* which the Bestwood Councillors helped to support with a contribution from their ward budget.

This enabled the Nottingham Music Service charity to give children an opportunity to* learn how to play music by ear, to read music, and they also learnt ensemble skills that helped them play as part of a whole orchestra* or ‘monster band’ at the end of camp.

Activities included teaching in small instrument groups, larger sectionals, outdoor games and play that reinforced musical concepts through physical activities and a final performance to mark the end of camp.* Well done to everyone who took part!*

Don't get caught out this Christmas ??

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:

* *Look for the CE or UKCA mark:* These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
* *Button-batteries can kill:*  Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
* *Check age restrictions:* Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason
