Team,
For the first time in our history, the Center is arguing two major abortion rights cases before the U.S. Supreme Court in the same term—just one month apart.
On Monday, we appeared before the Supreme Court challenging S.B. 8, Texas's extreme law that bans abortion after just six weeks of pregnancy. On December 1, we will appear before the Court a second time for oral arguments in our case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, challenging a Mississippi law that bans abortion after just 15 weeks of pregnancy.
In a year that has been devastating for abortion access in the United States, a generous Center donor has stepped up to make your gift go even further as we kick off the holiday giving season.
From now through December 31, every gift you make will be matched — dollar for dollar, up to $150,000 — to defend reproductive rights. Make your tax-deductible year-end contribution today to have DOUBLE the impact!
In its opening brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, Mississippi explicitly and repeatedly asked the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and rule that there is no right to abortion protected by the U.S. Constitution. The state's argument is a direct challenge to the core holding of Roe: that every person has the right to decide whether to continue their pregnancy prior to viability.
If Roe is gutted or overturned, abortion could be banned or severely limited in half the states in the country. Already, 12 states, including Mississippi, have trigger bans on the books which are designed to ban abortion immediately.
There is no middle ground. Any ruling that upholds Mississippi's ban will gut the central holding of Roe and our right to make fundamental decisions about our lives, our futures, and our families.
Make a gift of $35 or more right now and make DOUBLE the impact to continue fighting for our rights and our future.
Thank you for all that you do,
Nancy Northup
