America is on the precipice of degrading into something that would somewhat resemble, but not actually be, democracy.
- Using the pretense of Donald Trump’s Big Lie that the 2020 election was “stolen,” Republican politicians in state after state are rushing to make it harder for people of color to vote.
- A bill in Congress called the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would stop this racist power grab in its tracks by restoring key parts of the landmark 1965 Voting Rights Act that have been gutted in recent years by the Supreme Court.
- The law would restore the federal government’s power to block states from enacting flagrantly racist changes to their election laws.
- The House of Representatives passed the bill back in August. Now it’s coming up for consideration in the Senate. But of course Republicans are expected to prevent the Senate from even beginning debate on the legislation.
What’s unfolding is nothing less than a blatantly racist plot to prevent people of color from voting — with the express intent to tilt elections in favor of Republicans.
Tell the Senate:
Vote to allow debate to begin on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and then vote to pass the legislation. Our very democracy is on the line.
Add your name.
Thanks for taking action.
For democracy,
