Hi John,
When he played for Yorkshire Cricket Club, Azeem Rafiq was called ‘a P*ki’”, and derogatory comments about Asian men and corner shops were regularly thrown his way. Yorkshire Cricket Club have reportedly written off this racist bullying as “friendly banter”.
It is disgusting.
Racism in cricket is a problem - and it won’t go away if we don’t act to force those in positions of power to take it seriously. That’s why we’re demanding Yorkshire CCC release their full investigation into the scandal. Can you add your name?
Help get justice for Azeem
While the report found that it was “not reasonable for Azeem to have been offended”, it did find that the cricket player had been a victim of “racial harassment and bullying”. The club issued an apology, however were “pleased” to announce that no further disciplinary action would be taken and are now refusing to release the 100 page report's findings in full.
Azeem Rafiq has said the club are ‘trying to bury’ findings. We can’t let them get away with it. We’re writing to the club to demand they release the full report IMMEDIATELY. The more of us who add our names, the harder it will be for them to ignore us.
Help get justice for Azeem
We are asking for Yorkshire CCC to release the report in full and for a full investigation to be conducted by the England and Wales Cricket Board into the matter.
Azeem deserves the truth. In his own words: "I am proud to support this campaign by HOPE not hate. When investigating racism, the process needs transparency, not only so people know what happened, but so we can learn from it. I join their call to the Yorkshire CCC to release the investigation’s findings in full."
Thank you for joining us in standing in solidarity with Azeem!
