Hi John,
We now have worse income inequality than during the Gilded Age. We need more than voting: we need a complete overhaul of our economic and political system.
Last winter in Tacoma, people were camped on the same site where a Hooverville (a shanty town of make-shift homes built by homeless people) was during the Great Depression. The residents even dug up glass Lysol bottles from the 1930s.
What happened to that Hooverville? It was burned to the ground by the fire department to get rid of the people living there.
What happened to that Tacoma camp last winter? It was swept by police to get rid of the people living there.
“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” comes to mind.
Just as we did in the 1930s, we live in a brutal economic system that prioritizes the profits and property of the obscenely wealthy few over the lives of the desperately struggling many.
One year from now, voters will be choosing in the general election for WA’s 6th Congressional District.

To end homelessness, we need to de-commodify housing, enact vacancy taxes, enact rent caps, and purchase millions of homes to be used for social housing.
Housing is a crisis in this country, and it has been for a century. If you can, please contribute now so I can fight in Congress for an end to this suffering:
