The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to rule on a request that would have blocked Texas's abortion ban, S.B. 8, allowing it to remain in effect while they consider challenges to the law.
Yeterday, the Supreme Court heard arguments in two challenges to S.B. 8. But while we await rulings from the Court, let's show everyone exactly where we stand: Add your name to reject this full-scale assault on abortion access.
This is a pivotal moment in the fight to protect abortion access. Here are a few things we already know:
We know S.B. 8 has forced health centers to deny pregnant people abortions. We've heard heartbreaking and infuriating stories about the hardship and pain endured by patients all across Texas because of this ban.
We know those who designed this abortion ban tried to avoid the kind of legal scrutiny that has stopped other unconstitutional abortion bans in the past. They know that a ban at six weeks of pregnancy is in direct violation of Roe v. Wade — so they outsourced enforcement of the law to private bounty hunters. They've boasted that this trickery is enough to evade nearly 50 years of Supreme Court precedent.
Supporters of this law are trying to make that case in front of the Supreme Court. Add your name: Say you're willing to do whatever it takes to defend abortion access.
We'll be watching the Supreme Court closely and will keep you updated as soon as it issues any rulings in the cases brought by the Department of Justice as well as a coalition of abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood. In the meantime, take a moment to raise your voice by signing below to reject Texas's attack on abortion rights.
