Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard two challenges to the new law in Texas that makes abortion illegal after just six weeks of pregnancy.

Next month, the Court will also hear a case involving Mississippi’s recent abortion ban — one that directly threatens Roe v. Wade .

With the Supreme Court stacked with three right-wing justices appointed by Donald Trump — including two stolen seats — if this bill goes before the Court it might establish a new precedent for abortion bans. With reproductive rights on the line for tens of millions of women — we need reproductive justice now.

With Mitch McConnell leveraging the filibuster against every piece of legislation that he can, there’s little chance that we can get the Women’s Health Protection Act passed in this Congress.

That’s why I’m in favor of abolishing the filibuster. I became the first Senate co-sponsor of legislation to expand the Supreme Court, so Democrats can not only pass the transformative legislation voters demanded in the 2020 election, but restore balance to a Court that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell have corrupted.

But right now, we must show McConnell and Senate Republicans that Americans everywhere not only still support Roe v. Wade but demand that Congress enshrine its protections for reproductive rights.
