This weekend, I hit the campaign trail in Virginia to support Democrats and get out the vote ahead of today’s election.

I joined Hala Ayala, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, as we canvassed Arlington, VA, to ensure folks turn out to vote for the Democratic slate on Tuesday — led by Terry McAuliffe at the top of the ticket locked in a neck-and-neck race for governor.

I began Saturday morning with Hala Ayala, a lifelong Virginian and current state delegate vying to be ​​Virginia's first Latina woman lieutenant governor. It’s not just the top of the ticket that’s competitive in Virginia, there are numerous down ballot elections with women of color running that will be boosted with a strong turnout today.

Later that afternoon, I teamed up with DNC Chair, Jaime Harrison, to support Hala and the rest of Virginia’s Democratic ticket, including Terry McAuliffe — running for governor against a Trump-endorsed Republican who peddles similar conspiracies about the 2020 election and uses racist dog whistles to rally support from the far-right.

I didn’t stop there. On Sunday, I began the day with Delegate Joshua Cole, up for re-election today, attending four services at Black churches throughout the Fredericksburg area.

We then met with community leaders with Black Women on Deck — a group of empowered women taking political action to support Democrats and women of color running for office such as Hala Ayala for Lieutenant Governor this year.

Finally, I joined Majority Whip Jim Clyburn to meet with local community leaders from Fredericksburg and Stafford Counties to talk about our work in Washington and how critical it is that folks turn out today before the polls close to keep Virginia Blue.

Polls show Republicans are closing the gap — and even taking the lead — as they seek to win statewide in Virginia for the first time in over a decade. But we can’t let that happen.

That’s why today, I’m calling on you to join the fight to keep Virginia blue. I saw firsthand how much grassroots energy there is for Democrats like Terry and Hala, but they’ll need our support to get even more voters to the polls in these final critical hours of the campaign.
