Friends, Today I’m thinking and praying for my colleague, Victoria Cobb, who leads our sister organization, the Family Foundation of Virginia. Like Minnesota Family Council, they advocate for the sanctity of life, religious freedom, strengthening families and parental rights. And as we have done with True North Legal, they have recently launched a pro-bono law firm protecting the rights of Virginians. Here’s why I’m praying for Victoria today: what happens in Virginia today could be the signal of a political earthquake that impacts the nation. The governor’s race there – between former Gov. Terry McAuliffe and political newcomer Glenn Youngkin – is really a clash of worldviews, especially concerning the role of parents to oversee the education and upbringing of their children. And the results could signal a seismic shift in the electorate. President Biden won Virginia (a “blue state”) by ten points one year ago, and yet Youngkin, the GOP candidate, has just in the last week swung into the lead. Youngkin is leading by fifteen points among parents with a child in a K-12 school. The big issues? Parental rights, school safety, and the intrusion of Critical Race Theory and transgender ideology in the classroom. While we don’t have a statewide race in Minnesota this year, we do have the Defund the Police charter amendment in Minneapolis that is making national headlines. And all across the state, we have critically important local elections. Your vote is key. Remember, the folks elected today to sit on local school boards across Minnesota, will have a major say in what is taught in the classrooms in your community for years to come. Will you vote to keep CRT and transgender ideology OUT of the classroom? Let this be one last reminder to get out and help change Minnesota. Polls generally close at 8 PM. Check your polling location HERE. And friends, be watching that Virginia governor’s race. If conservatives pull off an upset win in Virginia in 2021, that’s a great indicator that trends are favorable for us to do the same here in Minnesota in 2022!
