Did you know that Poynter offers a variety of newsletters about the news media? It's an easy (and free!) way to stay current and connected in between Poynter training. Here are some of my favorite newsletters:
The Poynter Report with Tom Jones ([link removed]) and Covering COVID-19 with Al Tompkins ([link removed]) are my daily must-reads. I trust Tom to give me a play-by-play analysis about the media world, and Al hands me a crystal ball about what will make tomorrow's headlines.
The Collective ([link removed]) hits my inbox just once a month, and I always open it right away. Even though it's written by journalists of color, for journalists of color, I find the candid storytelling and takeaways invaluable as a white male ally.
Alma Matters ([link removed]) is a delight. Barbara Allen, our director of college programming, is hilarious and a bottomless pit of generosity. There are so many resources for college educators and advisers in there every Sunday morning!
Subscribe to more newsletter from Poynter here ([link removed]) and keep scrolling for your weekly roundup of training opportunities!

Trans in Sport
Webinar, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Eastern
During the 2021 legislative session, seven states passed laws that restrict transgender athletes’ ability to participate on sports teams that match their gender identity; dozens more states introduced similar bills in 2021 that didn’t pass.
At the center of public — and often vitriolic — debate around such laws are kids, families, athletic clubs and schools. This webinar, featuring award-winning ESPN reporter , will teach journalists how to thoughtfully, accurately and ethically report stories about gender and sports on the local level.
Cost: Free, thanks to support from the Gill Foundation.

Led by PolitiFact editor-in-chief Angie Drobnic Holan and PolitiFact senior correspondent Louis Jacobson, this 90-minute webinar will help journalists report on redistricting and its impact for years to come.
Cost: Free, thanks to support from the Google News Initiative, in cooperation with the JSK Journalism Fellowships, and an anonymous donor.
