Just like the focus was on Georgia in 2020, all eyes are on Virginia today. My friend Terry McAuliffe is running for Governor against an extreme culture warrior who has the backing of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

John, Virginia made incredible progress under Terry’s leadership. If his opponent succeeds in using his deep pockets to buy the Virginia Governor's office, he will reverse the progress made across the Commonwealth.

For Terry to win, he’ll need the biggest grassroots army in the history of Virginia politics to show up today. He can do it, but he needs our help.

Terry’s opponent says he’s proud to have Donald Trump’s endorsement. He even added “Donald Trump represents so much of why I’m running.”

And he’s putting his money where his mouth is. He has supported Donald Trump’s anti-democratic conspiracy theories and pushed an agenda of restricting voter access.

On the other hand, Terry is a champion for our freedom to vote. As Governor, he restored voting rights to more people than any other Governor in history. He fought hard to make sure Virginia was one of the most welcoming, inclusive and forward-looking places in the country. But if Terry’s opponent wins today, he’ll take the Commonwealth backwards.

In state after state across the country, we have seen that governors play a large role in determining whether access is restricted or expanded. We must hold the line in Virginia to protect and expand progress.

So here is the deal: if we do our part to elect Terry today, we can send a message to the entire country that our Democracy is stronger than ever. We can demonstrate that candidates who support voter suppression and Donald Trump’s big lie will be met with a groundswell of grassroots resistance.
