Left Thinks It Should Be in Charge of Education, Not
Parents <[link removed]> – This whole issue is not really about democracy versus the rights of individuals and parents, it’s about the institutions versus parents and democracy. Left-wing proponents of critical race theory don’t want to see American parents
organizing and opposing the agenda of their institutional cabal. They would prefer that decisions about your child’s education be left to left-wing insiders. They would rather you just keep quiet and let them indoctrinate your children. And they want to define any opposition to that arrangement as either illegitimate or dangerous. But the widespread anger and opposition to critical race theory and the obnoxious insiders who think it’s their right to foist their ideas on America’s children is gaining momentum. The American people
aren’t peasants, willing to bow low for their betters to make decisions for them. Something tells me the “sit-down-and-shut-up” tactic isn’t going to work. Heritage expert: Jarrett Stepman <[link removed]>
Texas Heartbeat Act Again Before Supreme Court. Here’s What You Need to Know. <[link removed]> – Unlike past state iterations of so-called heartbeat
bills, the Texas law’s unique structure has flummoxed opponents and resulted in two trips to the Supreme Court and its continued operation at the state level during litigation. The Texas law is rooted in both principle and science. Life is our most basic freedom. Science shows us that human life begins at conception and a baby’s heartbeat can be detected at roughly six weeks. Since the Texas Heartbeat Act went into effect on Sept. 1, most abortion activity in Texas has come to a halt and an estimated 150 unborn children per day have been saved from abortion. The efforts of Texans have also demonstrated how civil society rallies to support women experiencing challenging or unplanned pregnancies. In one single year, according to the most recent data available, Texas pregnancy resource centers provided $33 million in “services, materials, and support at virtually no cost to Texas women and families.” Heritage experts: Sarah Perry <[link removed]> and Tom

Book Launch: Our Broken Elections: How the Left Changed the Way You Vote <[link removed]> – Behind the deeply contentious 2020 election stands a real story of a broken election process. Election fraud that alters election outcomes and dilutes legitimate votes occurs all too often, as is the bungling of election bureaucrats. Our election process is full of vulnerabilities that can be—and are—taken advantage of, raising questions about, and damaging public confidence in, the legitimacy of the outcome of elections. This book explores the reality of the fraud and bureaucratic errors and mistakes that should concern all Americans and offers recommendations and solutions to fix those problems. Why Congress Shouldn’t Rush to Enact Poorly Conceived New Taxes to Fund Spending Spree <[link removed]> – Under the current tax system, when companies do consistently avoid paying taxes, it’s usually because they are able to claim preferential tax credits that are only available to favored businesses or industries. Unfortunately, there are more than 30 new provisions in the House tax proposal that would expand corporate tax
credits. Minimum taxes are burdensome to administer and comply with, as they effectively represent whole new parallel tax systems. In addition to the corporate profits minimum tax, Congress is also weighing expansion of another minimum tax system in the international tax code. These additional layers of complexity are good news for auditors and accountants, but bad news for businesses that want to focus on improving the goods and services they provide. Congress should reject a new corporate profits minimum tax and the host of other tax proposals that add further layers of complexity on top of an already convoluted
tax system. Lawmakers should say “no” to bad legislation. Instead of heeding Pelosi’s suggestion that there are “no bad decisions,” they should remember the counsel of Hippocrates: First, do no harm. Heritage

What’s really behind all the empty shelves? <[link removed]> – The Biden administration attributes these delays and shortages to worldwide factory disruptions during the pandemic and increased consumer demand. While these certainly play a role, the administration is not telling the whole story. What led to this crisis is a system of government-imposed regulations that seemed innocuous when the economy was healthy. However, the pandemic drew the immense burden of this red tape out of the shadows. A series of barriers in California, and at the federal level, prevented the market from responding efficiently to the demand for processing at the L.A. ports. First and foremost, union hour rules for longshoremen and truckers have resulted in port operations not matching the influx of ships. The Port of L.A. has been operating at only 60% to 70% of capacity, closed evenings and Sundays. Heritage expert: Tori Smith <[link removed]>
DHS' Mayorkas makes jobs for illegal aliens a priority over US workers and the law <[link removed]> – Mayorkas doesn’t really explain how the
E-Verify system could possibly be "misused as a tool of exploitive labor practices." But then, perhaps what he is really after is to scare employers off from using this voluntary system so that DHS will not have any records in its database of all of the illegal aliens being hired, seemingly with his blessing, by employers across the country. The bottom
line here is that Mayorkas has no authority to simply ignore federal law that carefully details those aliens who are allowed to have the privilege of working in the United States. He has no power to give employers a general license to hire illegal aliens. By doing so, he is not only dimming the employment prospects of American workers; he is, in fact, violating his oath of office and violating federal law. Just another sign of how this administration apparently believes it can do whatever
it wants, regardless of the law, the Constitution, and the best interests of the American people. Heritage expert: Hans von
