Election Day in VA: "The power is within us"
Today is Election Day
in Virginia. "It is we who will decide the next chapter of our unions and our working families' lives in the Commonwealth," said Virginia AFL-CIO president Doris Crouse-Mays. "The power is within us -- it is within our vote. So, tell a friend to tell a friend, make a plan to vote, and get out there and cast that ballot today to protect all that we have worked so hard for and to invest in our future together."

NCTE to recognize union voluntarily
In the second such instance in a week, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) [link removed] has agreed
to voluntarily recognize NCTE United, the union organized by the Center's staff. Politico recognized (link) [link removed] PenGuild
last Friday. After the Center's staff organized with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU) to form NCTE United, the NCTE Board and management unanimously approved using a neutral card-check process for voluntary recognition. "We are optimistic that NCTE will be a better place to work and allow all staff to thrive within their respective positions," said NCTE United. "We look forward to working in good faith toward a successful first contract," said Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, NCTE's executive director.
