Terry McAuliffe Closes His Campaign by Complaining There are Too Many White Teachers
|
From the story: Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, called for the state to “diversify” its teaching staff at an event on Sunday, after complaining about the percentage of white teachers in Virginia ( The Daily Wire). From Tom Elliot: McAuliffe’s closing message: Va has too many white teachers ( Twitter). From Bloomberg: Sabato’s Crystal Ball, an elections forecaster and newsletter at the University of Virginia, has changed its rating for the Virginia governor race to “Leans Republican” from “Leans Democratic,” which the race had been listed as since March ( Bloomberg). From Hugh Hewitt: I expect Youngkin to emerge as the winner early on Tuesday evening. The question then becomes: What do congressional Democrats do in response? President Biden is fixated on spending massive amounts of federal money despite his plunging favorability ratings. Will Democrats in Congress study a Youngkin win and conclude, “Um, let’s change course”? My guess is no ( Washington Post). More evidence the momentum is shifting Youngkin’s way ( National Review). From Ari Fleischer: Prediction: Youngkin will win comfortably tomorrow, beating McAuliffe by 4.7 points. There are 3 reasons: 1) Y is a reasonable, smart and reassuring. He’s a good candidate. 2) M is a political animal. Not popular these days. 3) The suburban anti-woke rebellion is real ( Twitter). From Dr. Albert Mohler: …in absolute political terms, Terry McAuliffe should have been a shoo-in. Virginia is an overwhelmingly blue state, and especially in terms of recent statewide elections, but Terry McAuliffe turns out to have made a massive mistake in which he has basically denied the authority and influence of parents in the public schools. When it comes to the education of own children, he has drilled down on it. He’s not backed down off of that position. And what we are looking at is, again, a massive collision of worldviews ( Briefing).

Chicago Judge Halts Police Vaccine Mandate and Orders Arbitration
|
From the story: A Cook County judge ruled Monday that the city’s vaccination policy can remain in place for now, but the city can’t enforce the Dec. 31 deadline for officers to get the shot without first arbitrating it with the police unions. The written decision by Judge Raymond Mitchell to grant a partial temporary restraining order centers on the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police’s lawsuit against the city over Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate ( Chicago Tribune). From WBEZ: The ruling is a major victory for police unions, who have held that the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate violates their collective bargaining agreements. Judge Raymond Mitchell ruled Monday that the mandate should be halted for police officers until those complaints can be settled in arbitration ( WBEZ).

Leaders there have taken stringent measures to contain pockets of the coronavirus in the country, despite criticism from business groups and a close to 80% vaccination rate.
