Apparel industry uses 43 million tons of chemicals every yeear

Friend,

How toxic are the clothes of major US retailers? Take a look at our new Toxic Textiles scorecard!

Spoiler (but, no surprise): Amazon performed the worst.

Every year, 43 million tons of chemicals are used to dye and treat our clothes, AND there are 8,000 different chemicals used to manufacture clothing. Toxic chemicals in clothing put the health of workers, consumers, and communities at risk - companies must end toxic textiles!

The retailers included sell their own brands of clothing and also sell clothing from many other companies. Retailers have the power to transform the entire industry and end toxic textiles.

In the case of Amazon, it's become the leading US retailer of apparel in the past year and has 80+ private label apparel and accessory brands. This makes it even more troubling that the corporation has no public chemical management policy on apparel!

We hope our new Toxic Textiles scorecard will help you with future shopping choices.

Thank you for all that you do,
