Dear John,
Last Tuesday, U.S. Representative John Larson (CT-01) introduced a bold, new Social Security bill that will go a long way to boost monthly benefits and strengthen this vital program for years to come.
Here are just a few of the important provisions in the bill:
- Increases benefits across the board for all Social Security beneficiaries;
- Improves the Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), so it reflects the inflation actually experienced by seniors;
- Improves benefits for widows and widowers from two-income households;
- Provides caregiver credits to ensure that people (mostly women) are not penalized in retirement for taking time out of the workforce to care for children or other dependents;
- Ensures millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into Social Security by applying the FICA tax to earnings above $400,000 (currently high income earners stop paying into Social Security when they’ve reached the $142,800 income threshold).
Please help the National Committee build unprecedented public and congressional support for the “Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust Act” by signing our urgent petition to Congress today. As the debate on boosting Social Security heats up in Washington, DC, we want to ensure your member of Congress sees that thousands of their constituents have signed onto this petition. The more petitions in their inbox, the more seriously they will take this issue!
Then I urge you to FOLLOW UP! Call the National Committee’s toll-free Legislative Hotline at (800) 998-0180. The Hotline will connect you directly with your member of Congress. Tell your U.S. Representative to support the “Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust Act” that will strengthen and expand this vital program for current and future beneficiaries.
We cannot succeed in passing this historic legislation without the participation of millions of working Americans and retirees who have a personal stake in the outcome of this debate. So please help the National Committee convince Congress that now is the time to boost — not cut — Social Security benefits by signing our urgent petition today!
Sincerely,
|
