Three Steps to Being an Ally During Solidarity Week

Solidarity Week--formerly Ally Week--begins today! Here are a few ways to make sure you are in solidarity with the causes you believe in and the people you want to support.

  1. Learn: Visit GLSEN’s website to learn more about Solidarity Week and how to join the campaign. Brush up on your own ally skills by checking out our page on the Straight For Equality Ally Spectrum
  2. Watch: Take a look at some installments of PFLAG Academy Online that talk about allyship and solidarity with less visible identities, such as bisexuality+, the “+” in LGBTQ+, and one on supporting trans and nonbinary loved ones. Additionally, be sure to review some recordings from PFLAG National’s 2021 Convention, which you can find by signing in with your convention account here.
  3. Share: Fill out your own #InSolidarityWith sign to take a selfie with and post across social media with hashtag “#InSolidarityWith.” Be sure to tag PFLAG so that PFLAGers can show their support!

Tell your Legislators: Support the Build Back Better Act

PFLAG National supports the Build Back Better Act, which will help all families thrive. The bill would expand pre-K for all 3- and 4-year old children; expand childcare subsidies, ensuring families pay no more than 7% of their income in childcare costs; and expand the ACA to include health insurance to people in states without expanded Medicaid, covering low-income people, seniors, and people with disabilities, including LGBTQ+ people, who might not otherwise be covered. The Build Back Better bill will come up for a vote in the House tomorrow, Tuesday, November 2nd. As Speaker Pelosi noted, this bill provides for “children learning, parents earning,” and that will help everyone, including LGBTQ+ people and their families. Read more about how the bill will help our LGBTQ+ loved ones

Contact your Representative and two Senators--don’t forget to give them your address and tell them PFLAG sent you--and ask them to vote in favor of this important bill.

Something to Talk About...Live!

This week, our Learning & Inclusion Team is taking a much-needed week off, so we're replaying a great episode from November 12, 2020, where we discussed "Queer & Christian in Texas: Are They Always Conflicting Identities?" from Remezcla by Stacy Fernández.

You can watch our replay on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter.

Learn more--and find the discussion questions--at pflag.org/blog/something-talk-about-live-november-12-2020.

Remember: We're here to help. Find us all at pflag.org/about/our-people.
