Dear John

There are so many wildlife highlights and success stories to share with you this month. None of which would be possible without your ongoing support and generosity. Read on to hear more about the impact you've had for wildlife including brown bears, spider monkeys, turtles, tigers and lions!

BEAR CUBS GO WILD

Thanks to your donations and adoptions, 14 orphans are returning to the wild in Russia. Rescued as helpless cubs, the tiny bears needed regular bottle-feeds, then porridge and eggs, before learning to forage for roots and berries prior to release. READ MORE ( [link removed] )

AWARD WINNERS

You chose spider monkeys. Nearly 18,000 of you voted in the People’s Choice category of our annual McKenna-Travers Awards. Fernanda Abra was the resounding winner for her visionary bridges, built to help rare monkeys cross busy roads in the Amazon.

TURTLES SWIM FREE

Thanks to supporters who contacted Born Free, we raised concerns about two marine turtles kept in terrible conditions at an aquarium in Italy with local authorities. After lengthy negotiations and careful rehabilitation, a few days ago they returned to the sea. Good luck Genoveffa and Gavino!

SAVING RARE TIGERS

Just 350 Indochinese tigers remain but, with your help, we work to keep them safe in Thailand’s dense jungle. Our Freeland colleagues identify each tiger’s unique stripes and camera traps carry out the equivalent of 26,000 nights of surveys. Thanks to everyone who donated to our recent Tigers in Crisis ( [link removed] ) Appeal, raising more than £50,000 to keep wild tigers safe.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE!

Lion brothers Jora and Black were subdued and bored when we rescued them from a rusty circus trailer in 2016. But, look at them now! They’re clearly flourishing at our sanctuary in South Africa, surrounded by the sights and sounds of their ancestral homeland.
