John, this weekend, you may see a few people dressed up as a doctor in a coat kind of like mine:

As a physician of more than two decades, it always makes me smile when folks choose to dress like a doctor year in and year out.

It’s not a scary costume — though I know needing medical care can sometimes be a scary experience. Our health care system has deep racial and gender-based disparities, and even with the Affordable Care Act, many people still cannot afford quality health care.

That’s why it’s so important to me to use what I’ve learned as a physician, a public health advocate, and a mom to help address inequities in health care and expand access to quality, affordable health care.
