As a physician of more than two decades, it always makes me smile when folks choose to dress like a doctor year in and year out. It’s not a scary costume — though I know needing medical care can sometimes be a scary experience. Our health care system has deep racial and gender-based disparities, and even with the Affordable Care Act, many people still cannot afford quality health care.
