When we think about college affordability, we often think about the rising costs of tuition, student loan debt, and expensive textbooks. What we may not realize is how many college students are going without healthy meals - many of them are attending class on an empty stomach, skipping meals to save money.

That's why I introduced legislation to help college students who are experiencing food insecurity. This legislation connects students with existing nutrition resources, like SNAP, by requiring schools to inform students which programs they qualify for, but may not know about.

It's extremely difficult for students to focus on their education when they are hungry or worrying about where to find their next meal, and we can do more to help them on their path to success. It's common sense to support students who are working diligently to create a better future for themselves and their families.
