![]() Message from Acting President Adrienne Kimmell
Tomorrow, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments about SB 8, the vigilante-enforced abortion ban that went into effect last month in Texas and rendered Roe meaningless in the state. As you know, the Court refused to block the law while the case is being argued, failing to protect the rights of millions of Texans by leaving them without access to abortion care after 6 weeks for now. It’s unconscionable that this blatantly unconstitutional law has remained in place for more than 50 days. Every day that SB 8 remains in effect, it harms the people of Texas and denies them their constitutionally protected right to abortion care.
The team here at NARAL Pro-Choice America will be following tomorrow's arguments closely and we’ll share updates as quickly as possible. For live updates, please follow us on Twitter where we'll be sharing important news throughout the day. SCOTUS Oral Arguments
The next 31 days of the Supreme Court's session could be the most consequential period for the right to abortion since Roe was decided in 1973.
The Court will hear oral arguments in two cases tomorrow regarding Texas’ SB 8—Whole Woman's Health v. Jackson and United States v. Texas.
But make no mistake: The two cases are about so much more than abortion. Everyone who cares about their constitutional rights should be concerned. The kind of scheme that SB 8 encourages could easily be used to ban free speech, marriage equality, or any other right.
Following those arguments, on December 1st, the Court will hear arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a separate case dealing with Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban that directly challenges Roe v. Wade. There is no path to uphold Mississippi's abortion ban without overturning Roe's protections.
With abortion rights and access on the line like never before, the Senate must pass the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA), a bill that would protect the right to abortion throughout the country—even if Roe is overturned. Combating Disinformation
As we gear up for Supreme Court hearings on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization and Texas' SB 8, it's more important than ever to debunk anti-choice disinformation about reproductive freedom. To catch up on what the anti-choice movement is saying and how to debunk it, read NARAL Research's memos on the Supreme Court case and SB 8. 500 Women Scientists Combat Anti-choice Health Disinformation
NARAL recently met with 500 Women Scientists, a grassroots organization working to address inequality in the sciences. Together, we discussed anti-choice health disinformation and how to combat it, especially in the lead-up to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case. ![]() Senate Appropriations
Senate leadership and reproductive freedom champions released bills that increase funding for reproductive health programs, remove numerous harmful anti-choice policies, and uphold reproductive freedom in the United States and around the world. Notably, these bills are free of the Hyde Amendment's discriminatory ban on coverage of abortion care for those who receive their health insurance through Medicaid and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, as well as the Weldon Amendment, a denial of care restriction. The bills also include provisions to permanently end the anti-choice global gag rule. ![]() Mark Your Calendar Upcoming Events AVAILABLE 7 DAYS A WEEK, BETWEEN 1PM ET/10AM PT - 9PM ET/6PM PT

Our reproductive freedom hangs in the balance. The anti-choice supermajority on the Supreme Court will soon have an opportunity to overturn Roe and set our movement back a generation. We understand the stakes. And we know the levers that need to be pulled to protect the right to abortion for every body.
It starts by pressuring the U.S. Senate to pass the Women's Healthcare Protection Act (WHPA), which would safeguard the right to abortion across the country even if Roe falls.
And it continues into the states where NARAL members are mobilizing to expose SB 8 copycat abortion bans.
