Dear People For Supporter,
The stakes in Virginia -- and indeed, nationwide -- just could not be any higher in Tuesday’s election. If far-right candidate Glenn Youngkin succeeds in seizing control of Virginia’s governorship, the ripple effects will be felt across the nation – all the way through next year’s crucial midterms.
People For members are stepping up big time and we're getting closer to our campaign goal, but we still have $13,153 to go and time is VERY short!
We're going all-out on this election because SO MUCH is at stake -- not just for Virginia but for the country as a whole.
Just in Virginia, we've seen enough to know that a Youngkin administration would:
Oppose a woman’s right to choose and fight to pass onerous, Texas-style restrictions on abortion
Attempt to overturn marriage equality (even though it’s settled law)
Oppose mask and vaccine mandates, and take the state backwards in the struggle against COVID-19
Ban books in Virginia public schools, including Pulitzer prize-winning works by black authors like Toni Morrison
Impose new voter suppression laws designed to depress turnout from voters of color and cement Republican rule in Virginia for as long as possible.
But the stakes of this race are truly nationwide, as well, and that’s why we’re urgently asking for your support.
This election will also set the national tone for ALL of the 2022 Congressional elections coming up next fall -- and could swing enough races to deliver the U.S. House to Republicans and put a full stop on ANY progressive legislation for the following two years.
Even our fight against the outdated and racist electoral college is at stake here; with a far-right extremist like Youngkin in the governor’s mansion, there’s ZERO chance that Virginia adopts the National Popular Vote Compact so we can elect our presidents by simple majority vote.
