A PERSONAL NOTE
Â
This week, I got to see my daughter who lives in Canada for the first
time in almost two years. I was in Canada for a funeral right before
Covid erupted and left for the US before the borders got locked down.
When the border re-opened, my eldest decided to visit immediately
because let's be honest, who knows how long they'll remain open?
The distance has been difficult. Life has changed for all of us so much
since January of 2020. We've had break-ups and new relationships. We've
had health problems and health victories. We've lost loved ones. We
missed out on celebrating 6 birthdays, 2 Thanksgivings, and a Christmas
together. We missed being able to personally support other family
members when they lost partners and children and parents.
We lost time, the most valuable thing in the world.
We've been making the most of it: showing off new recipes, sharing
stories, giving gifts that weren't able to be mailed, and shedding some
tears over our dearly departed family dog.
We did some road-tripping and visited the ocean, the forest, and the
swamp. We saw families of turtles, a baby copperhead, and beautiful
sunsets.
We kept expenses to a minimum because money is tight for everyone right
now. We brought delicious picnics with us, thermoses of perfectly mixed
coffee, and filtered water in a bit cooler in the Jeep.
Thor, who has been really lonely without his buddy Bella, happily jumped
into the back of the Jeep for every adventure. Until recently, he's
needed to be enticed into the vehicle. Now, he's like, "Hey, don't leave
me behind! I want to go too!"Â He is making the transition from being
the loyal guardian of our other animals to a companion to humans. I
think he's settling into his new role with some contentment.
We hope that this won't be a one-off and we'll be able to celebrate
holidays together again this year. But for now, I'm just content to
spend time with both of my girls. It's been far too long.
I know we're far from the only family separated by the outrageous
restrictions that keep people apart. I sincerely hope that the rest of
you get to be reunited with your loved ones again soon. The internet
makes things easier but it's definitely not the same as being face to
face and hugging the people you love most in the world.

WHAT I'VE BEEN READING AND WATCHING THIS WEEK
* The CDC "may have to update the definition of fully vaccinated
"
- I think we all know that means they want to shove more needles into
people.
* The hypocrisy is real. Twitter's JackDorsey warns of surging
inflation after his platform 'mistakenly' censors GOP lawmaker's
video about... inflation
"Hyperinflation is going to change everything," Dorsey said on
Friday night. "It's happening...It will happen in the US soon, and
so the world." Back in July, an inflation video posted by US House
minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) was deemed "sensitive
content" by Twitter's censorship police, who throttled back its
potential exposure by slapping it with a warning label.
* Cough *fact-based* Cough. "Liberal tech billionaire Reid Hoffman, a
funder of numerous disinformation projects, is backing a new media
venture launched Tuesday that seeks to combat disinformation, according
to a report. Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, joined ranks with
financier George Soros to fund Good Information Inc., which will "fund
and scale businesses that cut through eco chambers with fact-based
information," Axios
reported." (source

WHAT I'M DOING TO PREP THIS WEEK
This week has mostly been dedicated to visiting but it coincided with my
efforts to become more active. After a lengthy search, I finally found a
nearby trail that Thor and I really like for walking. It's nice to get
away from the noise of traffic and other people and walking in the woods
is my favorite way to get fit.
We're going to stick with 2 miles a day for another week then up our
game. And yes, we're going, rain or shine
