Friend,
This week, a Fox News host disrespected me and my parents with racist xenophobia, claiming that I hate our country—as if I don’t belong here.
He targeted my parents as immigrants of color, identifying me as “other” for being their child… as not really American, even though I was born in and grew up in Detroit.
Racist right-wing rhetoric dehumanizes people of color and immigrants, questions our claim to this country and our right to be included, and implies that we should just shut up and be grateful we get to live here at all.
Well, to that I say HELL NO.
People of color and immigrants belong here. We are part of this country, we have rights, and we will not be silenced. ALL of us in this country deserve human dignity and respect, and to have a seat at the table about the policies that affect our lives.
So I won’t back down in the fight for a truly inclusive, multiracial democracy. I won’t stop fighting for the opportunities and equity that we all deserve. I will outwork the hate, because we are worth fighting for.
Are you with me?
Please chip in $5 or whatever you can afford to show that you’re with me in the fight for justice and that we will not be silenced by hate.
