The United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a new report — and it’s not good news for Africa’s rare glaciers.

John,

The United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a new report — and it’s not good news for Africa’s rare glaciers.

Based on the current retreat rates of the Mount Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Rwenzori Mountains glaciers, they are on pace to disappear within two decades.

Shockingly, the report expects Mount Kenya will lose glaciers within just ten years. This would mark the first time human-induced climate change caused an entire mountain range to lose its glaciers.

The WMO report states Africa is undergoing increasing climate and weather variability. The result is a dramatic spike in disasters and significant disruption of ecological systems and the economies that depend on them.

Over the past 18 months, Africa has endured warming temperatures, accelerated sea-level rise, and significant climate events like floods and droughts.

As the WMO Secretary-General calls for increased investment in early warning systems for weather, water, and climate observation, SEEC members in Congress are working to prevent the impact of climate change on rare glaciers and other natural wonders of the world.

John, can you pitch in with a donation to help elect more SEEC members to Congress before it’s too late to save these natural treasures?

Thank you for your continued support.

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
