Friend, when EWG analyzed 32 million water records from across the country, we were shocked at the results. Out of almost 50,000 utilities studied, 45,000 detected contaminants linked to cancer. And 10,000 community water systems detected higher lead concentrations than what the American Academy of Pediatrics called safe for children.
That’s the bad news, but the good news is we’ve created a one-of-a-kind database so you can find out exactly what’s in your tap water and which filters you can use to protect yourself and your family. Our results are already making headlines, but you can take an in-depth look for yourself right now. Take the first step toward safer drinking water by visiting EWG's Tap Water Database and typing in your ZIP code.

Highly toxic fluorinated chemicals called PFAS build up in our bodies and never break down in the environment. Very small doses of PFAS have been linked to cancer, reproductive and immune system harm, and other diseases. EWG found that up to 110 million people may be drinking PFAS-tainted water.

Shocking EWG analysis found that a complex toxic cocktail of chemical pollutants in drinking water could result in more than 100,000 cancer cases. The study assessed 22 carcinogenic contaminants found in more than 48,000 community water systems across the country. Click here to learn more about carcinogenic contaminants in tap water.

Is the water from your tap safe to drink? Ask your water company and they’ll probably tell you it meets all government safety standards. They probably won’t tell you it could contain a dose of chemicals linked to cancer, brain damage, nervous system damage, fertility problems or hormone disruption.
That’s because those government standards don’t give you the whole story. So EWG created our own. Watch our video to learn more.
